BIOGRAPHY  (Top)

Gerald Guthrie was born in 1951 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. His father was a college art professor for 37 years and former graduate student of Grant Wood in the late 1940’s.

Guthrie taught animation and foundation studies as a Professor in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign for 28 years. His digital animations have screened and won awards in over one hundred national and international film festivals, including the Black Maria Film Festival (Jury's Stellar Award for Animation, 2015), Video Art and Experimental Film Festival (2013), Melbourne Animation Festival (2011), The Seattle Film Festival (2011), Anima Mundi (2010), and the Prix Ars Electronica International Festival of Arts and New Media (2008, 2010).

His animation shorts have been included in festivals and galleries in the United States, Australia, Russian Federation, France, Palestinian Territories, Serbia, Mexico, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, Brazil, Nigeria, Portugal, Canada, and Denmark.
